{"id":276,"date":"2017-03-06T11:46:40","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T09:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/?p=276"},"modified":"2017-03-06T11:46:40","modified_gmt":"2017-03-06T09:46:40","slug":"safe-sets-sights-on-growing-exports-to-russia-bulgaria-portugal-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/?p=276","title":{"rendered":"SAFE sets sights on growing exports to Russia, Bulgaria, Portugal &#038; Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cape Town-based producer and exporter, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.safe.co.za\/\">SAFE<\/a> (South African Fruit Exporters) is all set to take conversations forward with a group of possible new clients in Russia, Bulgaria, Portugal and Canada to expand its citrus and table grape exports to these regions.<\/p>\n<p>This follows fruitful initial discussions between SAFE and the group at last month\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fruitlogistica.de\/en\">Fruit Logistica<\/a>, the global fresh produce fair held annually in Berlin, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first step in becoming their fresh produce supplier is to agree on quality, packaging and financial terms and conditions, and then work out our shipping and packing plans,\u201d said Wibo van den Ende, Marketing Manager at <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-277 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Wibo-Interview-04-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Wibo Interview 04\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Wibo-Interview-04-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Wibo-Interview-04-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Wibo-Interview-04-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Wibo-Interview-04-1440x810.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/safe.co.za\/SAFENews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Wibo-Interview-04.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>SAFE.<\/p>\n<p>Wibo represented SAFE at Fruit Logistica (8 to 10 February 2017), where the fruit and citrus producer and exporter \u2013 strategically sharing a stand with its European total-produce distribution and marketing partner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haluco.nl\/nl\/home\">Haluco<\/a>, a total produce company \u2013 joined over 3\u00a0000 other international exhibitors to market their crop.<\/p>\n<p>Attracting more than 70\u00a0000 buyers and trade visitors from over 130 countries, Fruit Logistica offers pick-of-the-crop business opportunities for importers and exporters to find the perfect match. Novel varieties and pioneering techniques can assist us in cutting down on pesticide, fertiliser and water use \u2013 in other words, farm in a more environment-friendly manner,\u201d says Van den Ende.<\/p>\n<p>Newly-developed varieties and greater automisation could shrink production costs and enable SAFE\u2019s farms to become more labour efficient and reach higher yields per hectare. \u201cWe take notes from exporting regions that dominate in the field of innovation &#8211; such as Israel, Australia and California &#8211; and try to implement new methods that we know will empower our farmers and farming communities to achieve the best possible results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFruit Logistica is the meeting place of predominantly the European produce marketplace, but also that of the Middle and Far East. It renders us the perfect platform to explore new prospects and pursue new partnerships in these regions, especially with their supermarket chains.
